From Perception to Reality: Reading Between the Resume Lines |
Abstract
There is a massive disconnect between the “shortage of cyber security professionals” and no one wanting to provide “entry level” positions in cyber security. As the program manager for the Cyber Skills Enrichment Program, in the last year I have reviewed over 500 resumes, interviewed dozens of applicants and worked with the successful 15 applicants to date on the program. On several occasions, despite less than stellar resumes and perceived assumptions about candidates, we interviewed several people who turned out to be shining stars within the program. My talk is designed to challenge the perception of “unskilled”, “not technically skilled enough” and “not suitable” people. I’m asking people to think laterally about what they really need when it comes to finding the right person. Speaker Bio: Paula demonstrates over 30 years in IT in technical support and system admin.
