Looking for Cyber Unicorns |
Abstract
Hackers in hoodies; breaking into banks, like cyber-ninjas. The stereotypical image of cybersecurity portrayed. But, is there more to cybersecurity than just Penetration Testing, or Red Teaming. Many organisations claim there is a “cyber skills shortage”. Is it really a shortage, or is there a mismatch in what we’re (employers, and jobseekers) looking for? This talk will take a high-level look at the job landscape and economics, of the cybersecurity industry. What does the supply and demand look like, especially for common roles? What other factors are at play when trying to find that perfect match? From these, we identify and present patterns and ideas, to help people looking, hiring, and training cybersecurity professionals, demystify the skills gap problem. Revealing the numerous unique unicorns are indeed around.
