BSides Melbourne are honoured to have the following security professionals on our 2023 Review Board.
Lukasz GogolkiewiczLukasz is a high proficient security professional, previously responsible for the technical direction and leadership for one of the worlds largest technical security consultancies. Now, he heads up Corporate Security at SEEK. In this role he is responsible for ensuring the protection of sensitive information across a multitude of business systems, corporate systems and IT infrastructure.
He has worked with some of the world largest banks and financial organisations, has worked with federal, state and local governments, presented at and organised a number security conferences, and helps mentor the next generation of security professionals. |
Dr Joanna DaltonJoanna Dalton is the Cyber Defence Lead at REA Group where she is responsible leading the operational security strategy for Australia’s largest proptech company. She has over 15 years of experience in digital forensics and incident response and has a PhD in artificial intelligence, data mining and network file systems (#NotAUsefulDoctor). Joanna loves analysing large data sets to uncover malicious activity and is driven by helping to make the worst day in IT security just that little bit better.

Rob SmithRob has been in the security industry for nearly 20 years. He has had a wide range of roles, experiences and skills - including consulting, penetration testing, architecture, strategy and now runs Red & Blue Teams for a major Australian bank. He loves mixing the offensive to drive the defensive.

Shanna DalyShanna Daly has over 20 years experience across the information security industry. Shanna’s expertise has been called upon during countless data breach investigations, giving her an in-depth understanding of the security implementations that work, and the ones that don’t. Shanna continues to share her knowledge with the industry and has built and managed consulting teams of industry experts responding to all types of intrusions and breaches. Her experience across a wide range of information security domains gives her a unique perspective and a “think outside the box” attitude to securing organisations.

Ricki BurkeRicki Burke is founder of CyberSec People, helping organizations in Australia and the U.S. build and scale security teams. A keen contributor to the infosec community and is involved as Co-organizer of BSides Gold Coast, SecTalks Gold Coast, host of Hacking into Security podcast, and speaker at a number of BSides conferences.

Daisy WongDaisy Wong is an experienced cybersecurity expert with over a decade of experience in the IT and financial industries. She currently serves as the Security Culture and Awareness Lead at Flybuys (Loyalty Pacific), where she leverages her expertise in marketing and behavioural studies to promote a stronger security culture among both employees and customers to prevent and mitigate the impact of cyber security incidents.

Allen BaranovAllen Baranov is a Manager in the Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) team at CyberCX where his daily grind is helping organisations understand, achieve, and then maintain compliance with government and industry standards such as ISO-27001 and PCI DSS. As a PCI subject matter expert, he knows more about the little numbers on the face of credit cards than is healthy for any single individual.
A very naïve Allen started in information security roughly 20 years ago and has worked across pretty much all the security domains and organisation types. He was not aware at the time just how important spreadsheets would be in his life. Allen founded the DEF CON Melbourne group (DCG-11613) and has presented at a number of conferences and meet-ups including ComfyCon, CyberConf, BSides Melbourne, CrikeyCon, DEF CON Blue Team Village, etc. He has also mentored first-time speakers for the Diana Initiative and other conferences. |
Sarah YoungSarah is a Senior Cloud Security Advocate at Microsoft where she works to promote cloud security best practices and security thought leadership to communities. She has lived all over the place but currently calls Melbourne home. Sarah is an experienced public speaker and has presented on a range of IT security and technology topics at industry events internationally, holds numerous industry qualifications and has co-authored Microsoft Press technical books. She is a co-host of the Azure Security Podcast. In 2019, Sarah won the Security Champion award at the Australian Women in Security Awards. She is an active supporter of security and cloud native communities globally and spends most of her spare time eating hipster brunches and high teas and spending a disproportionate amount of her income on her dogs.

Liz Bonny (RB Trainee)Liz is a Product Security Engineer at Afterpay, a subsidiary of Block Inc. She currently works in the Product Security team, building security tooling and helping improve Afterpay’s application and cloud security posture.
Liz graduated with a Bachelor of IT in 2018, attaining the prestigious Darren Goldman Award for being the top-achieving student in her cohort. After graduation, she worked as a Security Operations Centre (SOC) Analyst for 1.5 years, before transitioning into an Application Security Engineer role in 2020. Since then, Liz has gained experience across cloud security, application security, and DevSecOps, obtaining her AWS Solutions Architect certification in 2021. Outside of work, Liz is an active volunteer within the Melbourne cyber security community. She co-founded the AWSN Explorers (formerly Cadets) Program for tertiary students in 2017, held several volunteer leadership positions within the AWSN, and participated as a mentor for the AWSN Mentoring program participants from 2021 onwards. Liz also volunteered for BSides Melbourne in 2019, 2022, and now 2023. |
