Helping the n00b thrive: a guide to delivering effective on-the-job training |
Abstract
Providing on-the-job training to new hires is something many security professionals do as a routine part of their roles. However, few of us are given formal instruction on how to deliver effective adult education in the workplace. Danielle will introduce some general better practice adult education principles and suggest some techniques helping new hires get up to speed more rapidly based on her experience training student and novice nurses in busy hospital wards. Additionally, she’ll make a case for why providing high quality on-the-job training experience benefits everyone in an organisation and can be an informative and even fun experience for the trainer. Speaker Bio: Danielle, herself, is a n00b, having transitioned into an entry-level pentest role after spending most of her professional life as a registered nurse specialised in paediatrics. She enjoys learning broadly about how technologies work and likes to knit when she has a moment. She is a proud fur mother to two extremely cheeky cats. |
