Writing with clarity / talk for hackers who can't write good and wanna learn to do other comms stuff good too |
Abstract
You spent countless hours toiling in the infosec salt mines for veins of CVE and RCE. Your cart is overloaded with so many nuggets of risk you know the execs will scream and cry in their haste to fix everything, crowning you their saviour. You bash out your findings making sure the exec summary is brimming with blood, woe, and technical flexing. So why didn't anyone read it? Effective communication is about understanding and serving your reader. You do this by understanding their priorities, by using simple concrete language, and setting up your writing in a way that makes sense to them. Come along to this talk and I'll show you how you can be a better communicator, sell your ideas, and ensure your great work isn't lost because of bad marketing. Speaker Bio: Ex journo covering the infosec beat for a bit over 10 years. Now in the infosec mines doing cyber sec awareness at Telstra, and user uplifts. I spent a career eating technical papers and listening to hacker talks, spitting out 500 words an hour or two later. Most downvoted person on electronics StackExchange five years running. |
